Spiritual qi revival has begun, and the Evil Gods are watching. To reassure the public, the authorities decide to create a “Guardian Deity,” choosing an utterly ordinary librarian named Su Ming. His task is simple: appear in an officially arranged livestream and play an all-powerful Eastern god. But the System he binds to has a bizarre twist: the [Mythic Roleplaying System]. The more convincingly he acts, the stronger he becomes, but the characters he must play are the Great Old Ones from the Cthulhu Mythos! During his first livestream, the authorities ask him to “bestow blessings upon an auspicious creature.” Instead, he silently pulls out a tentacled idol, sending viewers’ sanity plummeting. The authorities cry, “Wrong, wrong! We asked you to play a god, not scare everyone!” But then a real Evil God descends, plunging the world into panic, and Su Ming is forced to keep “playing his role.” When an indescribable, terrifying figure looms over the city, people realize in horror that the “fake god” they believed in might be even more sinister than the real Evil Gods!
