Female lead, Liu Zhixia: Eighteen years old, the legitimate daughter of the prime minister of the Dayin Dynasty. After her mother died young, she was framed by her stepmother, Madam Liu. To protect herself, she pretended to be insane and foolish for three years. To outsiders, she is the “foolish eldest daughter,” muddled and barely able to speak, but in truth she is sharp-witted, skilled in medicine and court strategy, and has secretly raised a loyal force of death warriors while waiting for a chance to clear her mother's name.
Male lead, Xiao Qi: Twenty years old, Crown Prince of Dayin. Outwardly cold and taciturn, he keeps his distance from women and treats the imperial consorts and the daughters of court officials with equal indifference. In truth, he is shrewd and calculating, secretly investigating the cause of Liu Zhixia's mother's death. He saw through Liu Zhixia's disguise long ago and has repeatedly helped her out of danger without revealing himself.
