While tidying the old bookstall her grandfather left behind, 23-year-old office worker Lin Xiaoman accidentally discovers a magical book called The Ledger of Regrets.
It cannot record the present, but it can absorb other people's unfinished regrets and pull her into the parallel scenes those regrets belong to. There, as an invisible observer, she can send brief hints to help people find peace with their true feelings. But every time she brings a regret full circle, she loses an unimportant memory in exchange for the energy it takes.
From a child's guilt to a love letter from the Republic of China era to a veteran's longing, Lin Xiaoman grows through one story of regret after another, each spanning different eras. She also unexpectedly reunites with Jiang Yu, the boy she had a crush on in high school but rejected out of insecurity. As her memories begin to fade faster, she discovers that the notebook has been passed down through her family, and that her grandfather knew its secret all along. Her guilt over her grandfather and her regrets about Jiang Yu become the hardest obstacles to overcome.
This is a journey through regret and redemption. Lin Xiaoman will come to understand that every regret is a sincere feeling left without a place to rest, and that only by facing the past can we cherish the present.
