Liang Mingyu was born into a family that favored sons over daughters. When she was sixteen, her father shamelessly begged someone to get her a temporary job as a maternity nurse at a major hospital. He then shamelessly arranged for her to stay on the balcony of the Huo family’s home. One rainy night, the Huo family’s eldest son, Huo Xing, violated her. Her parents were as delighted as if they’d won the lottery, and forced her to marry him.
Over more than a decade of marriage, Liang Mingyu exhausted herself for her family, yet her husband constantly put her down. Her father fell seriously ill, draining her savings. Her in-laws looked down on her, her husband resented her for being too forceful, and her son blamed her for caring only about money.
With nowhere left to turn, Liang Mingyu asked for a divorce. Her husband insisted she leave with nothing.
Determined to give her thirty-six-year-old self a way out, Liang Mingyu chose to walk away with nothing.
Her ex-husband thrived on the wealth she had left behind, and his parents enjoyed the benefits too. Liang Mingyu was saddled with enormous debts, but she rose from the depths of despair.
Then one day, Zhou Jing said to her, “You’re not the problem. The people who hurt you are.”
At an age when people supposedly shouldn’t fall in love, Liang Mingyu discovered what love was.
