Veteran Hu Bayi receives a mysterious package left by his grandfather. Inside are a fragmentary map and a notebook filled with strange symbols. On the final page, a message written in blood reads: "Every sixty years, the cycle repeats. The bronze gate opens, the Underworld Spring emerges. The living must keep away."
Meanwhile, an organization calling itself the "Yin Soldiers" is hunting down everyone connected to the bronze gate. To uncover the truth, Hu Bayi joins forces with Wang Pangzi, an expert in the secrets of feng shui, and the mysterious woman Shirley Yang. Together, they set out to find the Ninefold Bronze Gate deep in the Kunlun Mountains.
They cross the Valley of Death and disarm traps in ancient tombs, only to discover that every ruin warns intruders to turn back. When the three finally find the legendary bronze gate, its carvings depict Hu Bayi's grandfather. More chilling still, the "Yin Soldiers" pursuing them seem not to be alive at all...
As the countdown to the bronze gate's opening draws near, Hu Bayi must face a brutal truth: of the expedition that entered the gate sixty years ago, only his grandfather returned. And the leader of the "Yin Soldiers" now is his grandfather's younger brother, who never made it out of the gate. Will history repeat itself this time? Is the "Underworld Spring" beyond the gate an elixir of immortality, or an entrance to hell?
