The universe is woven from dimensions of memory. Every living being's memories form a “memory fabric”; if it is damaged, the consequences range from a loss of emotion to the collapse of an entire dimension.
Lin Zhi appears to be an antiques restorer, but she is actually the last generation of memory menders, her abilities in decline. She can use empathy as needle and thread to mend shattered memories, but is easily overwhelmed by other people's emotions. Her own memories, meanwhile, conceal a blank she dares not touch.
The rifts of forgetting keep widening. Memory raiders disguise themselves as ordinary people, tearing apart others' memories to devour their power and proclaiming, “Emotion is a burden on the universe.” Then the legendary ferryman of the rifts suddenly appears, countless fragments of memory hidden in his eyes, and tells her, “A storm is coming. You are our only hope.”
She mends others' regrets, uncovers her family's secrets, searches for her own past, and finds companions with whom she can share a symbiotic bond.
When a silver butterfly awakens from the abyss of memory, and the raiders' obsession comes to light, she finally understands: mending memories is never about stitching up pain, but about awakening the light hidden in the fragments and making empathy the eternal guardian of the dimensions.
This is a journey of redemption across dimensions of memory, and a long path toward making peace with oneself.
