Qin Shou, a burned-out office worker who died from overwork on a 996 schedule, transmigrates into the body of an unlucky man with the same name in Love in the Courtyard.
From the start, he finds himself at Jia Dongxu's funeral, where the whole courtyard gathers to pressure people into donating. The hypocrite Yi Zhonghai guilt-trips him:
“Qin Shou, you're a high-paid eighth-grade worker with no family to support. You should be generous and help the widowed Qin family!”
Looking at the beautiful young widow Qin Huairu, her eyes brimming with tears, and the crowd of vultures glaring at him, Qin Shou sneers:
“Help? Sure. Let's see what the bone-cleaver in my hand has to say about that!”
He flatly refuses to be guilt-tripped and tears into the hypocrite, unexpectedly activating the [Happy Life System]!
[Ding! Congratulations, Host, on refusing moral blackmail and embracing self-interest! The “Happy Life” System is now active!]
And so, the courtyard's most selfish “beast” is born.
With the System in one hand and eighth-grade fitter skills in the other, Qin Shou tramples the courtyard's vultures and carves out a life of luxury:
Snatching opportunities: One pot of braised pork has the whole courtyard drooling. He wins over the stomach of Qin Huairu, the future “bloodsucker,” and even steals Silly Zhu's chance to marry her, refusing to be a fallback husband!
System rewards: He trades for scarce grain and meat coupons, top-tier cooking skills, and even bicycle coupons and engineering skills. He goes from having neither a home nor a car to being the first to enjoy the good life of the era!
Dominant face-slapping: One truth-telling charm drives Yi Zhonghai mad and exposes the hypocrite for who he really is. One flash of his knife keeps Jia Zhangshi in check. Liu Haizhong and Yan Bugui are crushed one after another!
A slow-burn romance: Qin Huairu goes from a timid widow to showing up on her own to do his laundry and polish his car, whispering to him by the window at night. She goes from begging for meat soup to gladly taking care of everything for him. Their flirtatious, sweet everyday life blossoms for him alone!
In this courtyard, what I, Qin Shou, say goes.
