Li Goudan, a Taoist boy from the Sanqing Temple in Zhongnan Mountain, has been learning talismans and spells for more than ten years from a half-hearted master. He has not become a great Taoist, but he has developed a skill of talking against monsters and the ability to bully the weak and avoid the strong. Unexpectedly, the old locust tree in the backyard rebelled and burned down the Taoist temple. The master and the disciple were forced to go down the mountain to beg for food to make a living.
I thought I was going down the mountain just to have a good meal, but I never expected to bump into some weirdos: a tree spirit who wanted to fall in love, a ruthless rat spirit who held a grudge, and a sinister evil cultivator who was behind the scenes. Goudan carries a mahogany sword with yellow talismans and relies on half-baked Taoist skills to fight against monsters and get into trouble at the same time. His jokes are dense and nonsensical, and his thrills are mixed with nonsense. He exorcises evil spirits and subdues demons along the way. Unexpectedly, he goes deeper and deeper into the water, and weird things come one after another. He has to rely on luck to even save his life.
