The Coffin Is Sealed at the Auspicious Hour

For generations, my family has used “coffin divination” to tell good fortune from bad. On the day I came of age, the coffin began to sound on its own, pointing to my fiancé.

I come from the mysterious “Coffin Divination Clan.” A blackwood coffin has stood in our ancestral hall for generations. Before any major family decision, a close blood relative must lie inside to sense “heaven's secrets.” At my coming-of-age ceremony, I followed tradition and lay in the coffin to ask about my future marriage. But the coffin shook violently, and bloody words seeped through its walls, pointing straight to my gentle, well-loved fiancé: he would bring me “great misfortune.”
