Five hundred years after returning from Buddhist scriptures, cracks appeared in the scriptures of Daci'en Temple in Chang'an and the handwriting was blurred. Along with the golden light, Lingshan was also shrouded in ancient fog. Xuanzang was reincarnated as the eminent monk Xuanwu, and was entrusted by Guanyin in a dream to know the truth: the source of chaos was moving, and Chi You's remaining soul wanted to break the seal. Only by reuniting his master and disciples and traveling west can the scripture be repaired and the crisis in the three realms resolved.
Xuanwu found Wukong who had become a Buddha, Bajie who was greedy for the world of mortals, and Sha Seng, the protector of the Liusha River. The four masters and disciples reunited and headed west. On the way, they subdued the three monsters of "greed, anger, and ignorance" transformed by the energy of chaos, helped the Bull Demon King rescue Princess Iron Fan, and solved the crisis in the poisonous miasma forest to awaken the deluded Bajie; Sha Monk touched the alien stone tablet by the Liusha River and recalled the ancient battle between gods and demons and the secret of Chi You's seal. After that, everyone went through many hardships such as fighting Shadow Wukong who was transformed from chaos in Black Wind Ridge, collecting the reincarnated spider essence Jing Spider in Pansi Cave, getting help from Red Boy in Flame Mountain, getting rid of the old demon Xuan Shui in Zimu River, and subduing three demons in Shituo Ridge. Along the way, they absorbed White Leopard and other guardians, and exposed the conspiracy of the Nether Cult Leader (transformed by the remnant soul of Chi You).
In the end, they encountered the demon soldiers led by the Netherworld Cult Leader in the Sealing Demon Ridge. The gods from the three realms gathered to help. Wukong sacrificed his life and turned into a diamond barrier to seal the demon cave. Tang Monk chanted sutras and supplemented them with the power of the Chaos Orb to complete the scriptures and strengthen Chiyou's seal. The four masters, disciples, and all the protectors were conferred higher fruition status by the Tathagata, and the completed scriptures were spread throughout the three realms to protect the peace of all living beings. The journey to the west was finally completed.
