Deyun: My Junior Brother Wants to Rebel Against the Three Vulgarities

Yong Cai had no idea that Yong was an ancient surname with a three-thousand-year history. He couldn’t understand why his parents had given him a name that meant “mediocre talent.” Supposedly, they hoped he would grow up to become talented, but had those two ever stopped to consider their own surname? Despite being called Yong Cai, he was anything but mediocre. At seven, he became a disciple of Shi Yingjie, the last disciple of the crosstalk master Hou. By twelve, he was touring all over China with his master under the title of “Crosstalk Prodigy.” When he came of age, his senior fellow apprentice arranged for him to help one of his own disciples. But on his very first day at Deyun Society, he called a meeting of the entire troupe, and the topic was, unbelievably, “I want to oppose vulgarity.” And so began a bizarre and hilarious story.
