A Tang Dynasty Forensic Expert: A Tough-Minded Coroner Solves Strange Cases

Han Mo, a modern-day forensic examiner who has fallen into a downward spiral, makes a mistake that plunges him into self-doubt. After getting drunk, he unexpectedly transmigrates to the Tang Dynasty and becomes an obscure coroner in Chang’an County. Faced with primitive autopsy conditions and the low status of coroners in ancient times, he plans to muddle through life, but a bizarre murder forces him to put his professional skills to use again.

With his modern forensic knowledge, he repeatedly uncovers crucial clues in traces left on corpses and in bone characteristics. First, he exposes an apothecary owner’s scheme to frame someone else and catches the real poisoner. And in the case of the woman in the golden mask, he finds a fatal pinhole beneath the mask, revealing a secret grudge buried deep within a wealthy household.

Bizarre murders keep unfolding, while hidden attacks from the court close in at every turn. This modern forensic examiner who has transmigrated to the Tang Dynasty will ultimately set off a forensic revolution, holding fast amid the fog to his original vow: “To stand up for the living and speak for the dead.”
