My name is Lin Ye, and now everyone respectfully calls me "Master Lin".
If you meet me on the street, you will probably think that I am just an ordinary old man from Northeast China, squatting under the wall to bask in the sun, holding a cigarette in my mouth and squinting at the snow. But if you are willing to sit down and listen to my chatter, I will tell you——
My whole life, I have actually been working for "them".
Starting from the small village at the foot of Changbai Mountain, fate is like a weed, it grows and grows and cannot be plucked out. My grandfather was an old shaman, and my father died young. This heavy burden finally fell on my shoulders.
There are no flying swords or cultivating immortals in this book. Some are the rumbling exhaust sounds of Huanghai Dachai vans, some are the wails of ironware coming from the ruins of Tiexi factory, and some are the pairs of green eyes in the deep forests of Changbai Mountain.
In my life, I have experienced three generations of changes:
* When I was a child, I was afraid of the statues of gods in the house, the sacred drum played by my grandfather in the middle of the night, and the yellow-skinned people in the mountains who could call people by their names.
* When I was young, I hated this damn fate. I wanted to escape. I wanted to live a normal life. But the reality forced me to establish a court and invite immortals, which allowed me to see what it means to be "Hu Huang Bai Liu Hui" and what it means to "become a ghost in a single thought".
* When I got older, I finally understood what my grandfather said back then. There are no absolute gods or ghosts in this world, there are only causes and effects and a little bit of human touch.
In this book you will see:
* The most authentic Northeastern folk customs: from shamans dancing to divine songs, to paper-cutting to summon spirits
