In the Luoxia Valley deep in Wushan Mountain, young Zhang Peng makes a living by hunting and lives with his father-in-law, a medicine farmer who adopted him. He is unsophisticated, but he is naturally able to empathize with the spiritual birds and beasts in the valley. He also has a strange power to crack rocks with his bare hands - this power comes from the bronze pendant he has worn around his neck since he was a child, with the incomplete character "xi" engraved on it.
