The world has been divided by unknown "rules" into countless separate "anomalous spaces." Each space has a set of survival rules that must be followed to the letter. Anyone who breaks them will face an incomprehensible "purge." The rules are not fixed: they mutate in bizarre ways as the spaces evolve and exploration deepens, and the rules in some spaces even contain mutually contradictory "traps." At the heart of every anomalous space lies a failed "spatial anchoring experiment" from a century ago. The experiment's lingering "power of rules" continues to erode reality, while those who can sense fluctuations in the rules and rewrite loopholes in them, known as "rule resonators," have become key to either saving the world or hastening its destruction. Lin Shen, a former archivist at the Anomalous Incident Investigation Bureau, became a latent rule resonator after coming into contact with a damaged "first-generation rule document." When his younger sister, Lin Xi, is swept into an anomalous space and disappears, he sets out to transmigrate through the spaces, searching for her and uncovering the truth behind the rules. His ability allows him to sense "folds in the rules" where they contradict one another, but overusing it causes the rules to erode him, bringing on symptoms such as disordered memories and a body that turns transparent.
