At nineteen, Wu Xuan fell from a dilapidated dormitory in Rongcheng into a bloody vortex beneath the earth, all because his childhood sweetheart, Bai Yin, had disappeared.
He and Wang Nao met Sun Siyue, Lin Yusheng, and Du Wandu, and the five became sworn brothers. When they were crushed by Huang-ranked assassins from Hidden God, they barely escaped with their lives, were rescued by a mysterious girl in white, and were forced to leave their homeland.
At Xicheng No. 2 High School, they fought back against campus bullying, burned down Hidden God's central stronghold, Golden Splendor, and forced the Earth-ranked One-Eyed Dragon to show himself.
Back in Xicheng, Scarface revealed with his dying breath that Bai Yin had been offered to a powerful figure, igniting the flames of revenge for good.
At a wedding in Tancheng, Wang Nao's attempt to seduce the enemy was exposed in front of everyone by Yan Renxing, an elder of the South Heaven Gate's Punishment Hall, who revealed that Wang Nao was an undercover agent. Blood flooded the scene. To protect his companions, Wu Xuan drew away their strongest enemy and leaped from a snowbound cliff.
Against all odds, he survived and was saved by Gongsun Xiaoxiao of Gongsun Village. To repay her kindness and find the divine weapon Evil Dragon Spear, he entered a tournament to win a bride and married Xiaoxiao.
His master, the Eyebrowless Daoist, passed on his power at the cost of his life, helping Wu Xuan break through to the second level of the Heavenly Profound Realm, but leaving behind the danger of a backlash that could send him berserk. All his hatred now points to Hidden God's leader, Young Master Shengxu.
Now he takes up the Evil Dragon curved saber and charges alone toward Spirit Dragon Mountain.
Behind him are his tender, tearful wife, Gongsun Xiaoxiao; Bai Yin, whose feelings are impossible to untangle; his brothers, who have entrusted him with all four of their lives; and General Wu, the South Heaven Gate's second-in-command, who may be hiding a secret about his bloodline.
Ahead is Young Master Shengxu, reputed to be invincible, with the Evil Dragon Sword in hand.
His master's death, his brothers, an old love, a new wife, and questions of loyalty: everything will come to a head at Spirit Dragon Mountain.
He does not know whether he will make it back down alive, but he knows this: today, he will pay back every debt with his life.
