Lin Mo, a graduate student in history, transmigrates to the Republic of China in 1932, just as the January 28 Incident breaks out. Tempered by blood and fire, he transforms from a student watching from the sidelines into a soldier determined to serve his country. To build a powerful army, he and his close friend Chen Yuanzhou defy their families' objections and head to Nanjing, where they take on the grueling trials of the Whampoa Military Academy. Thus begins his legendary journey from frail scholar to battle-hardened soldier.
