One Car in the Apocalypse, and I Pick Up All the Beauties

The apocalypse arrives, plunging the world into a bizarre “Joyful Calamity.” Zombies aren’t the scary part. What’s terrifying is that they’re affected by human emotions. Fear makes them go berserk, but laughter... might make them dance in the most awkward way imaginable.

Lin Yang, a used-car salesman, drives off in a beat-up Jinbei van that a customer had left on consignment amid the chaos. The van can refuel itself, tell corny jokes, and is always playing “Good Luck Is Coming.” The first passenger he “picks up” is a female lawyer determined to explain the law even in the apocalypse.

“According to Article Three of the Temporary Vehicle Cabin Management Convention,” she says, pushing up a pair of nonexistent glasses, “zombies lack civil capacity, so hitting them counts as emergency self-defense.”

Lin Yang glances at the zombie horde chasing them in the rearview mirror and listens to the car’s AI play “Today Is a Good Day.”

Is something about this apocalypse a little off?
