Who’s Longing for Whose Life tells the story of Lin Shen and Su Qing, a couple with very different values. After divorcing over a disagreement in their beliefs, they each set out to discover the meaning of life, one in the city and the other in the mountains and forests.
Lin Shen remains in the mountains, living a simple life at a forest ranger station and using his own hands to make life warm for their son, Xiao Yu: knitting sweaters, making wooden toys, and telling him stories about nature. Su Qing pursues her career in the city, but feels empty amid all her material comforts. Their son’s essay, “There are no stars in Mom’s home,” makes her realize what she’s been missing.
