Taking the city of Guangzhou from the Qing Dynasty to the early years of the Republic of China as the stage, and through the perspective of a family who served as "Tongshi" (translator) for three generations, it uses humor to show the real historical changes of this "hot city" in the collision between China and the West. The story avoids the common "palace fighting" and "power plot" routines, focusing on cultural misunderstandings, language jokes, commercial absurdities and the collision of Chinese and Western daily life, and excavates vivid details that have been ignored by official history within the framework of historical authenticity.
