The French Concession’s Case Files: Justice Moves Through the Smoke and Fire

In Shanghai during the Republic of China era, beneath the glittering lights of the French Concession, countless crimes and conspiracies lurked.

Fang Chi, a taciturn detective with the Public Security Bureau, never let go of his brass cigarette holder. His keen gaze could see straight through people. Shi Yiyan, a refined man of the martial world who carried a fan inscribed “Happy in Ignorance,” was meticulous and could unravel mysteries from the tiniest clues. Bai Xia, the dashing and capable daughter of the bureau chief, was quick on her feet and used careful, professional examinations to help solve cases. Together, the three combed the streets and alleys of the French Concession, from a bloody murder backstage at a theater and a burned corpse at an antique shop to a locked-room theft at a foreign trading firm and a jewelry-store switcheroo. Behind each bizarre case lay humanity’s greed and desire.

They peeled away layer upon layer of deception and exposed carefully disguised scams, clearing the names of the wronged and bringing justice to light. In turbulent Shanghai, they wielded justice as a sword and truth as a shield, writing a legendary chapter in the annals of crime-solving in the French Concession.
