Reborn in 1998: From Passing the Exams to Becoming a Police Chief

Back in 1998, watch as a low-ranking beat cop takes complete control and brings both the underworld and the legitimate world to heel.

In 1998, state-owned enterprises were being restructured, floods raged across the land, and the dawn of the internet was near.

Chen Ping'an brought thirty years' worth of foresight and a lifetime of streetwise ruthlessness with him as he plunged into the currents of the system.

Starting from nothing, he built his reputation in the muddy sprawl of the urban villages. He turned others' strength to his advantage, navigating with ease between the legitimate world and the underworld.

To maintain public order, he rolled out the “Skynet Project,” leaving criminals nowhere to hide. In business, he invested in the internet and real estate, building a commercial empire from behind the scenes. In the struggle for power, he wielded a “red notebook” that made corrupt officials tremble.

Some called him “Chen the Just,” a guardian of peace. Others called him “Chen the King of Hell,” a terror to evildoers. Chen Ping'an said, “I'm no good guy, but when I get bad, there's no room left for bad guys.”

This is the legendary tale of a wily old hand in a police uniform, rising from a low-level beat cop to the pinnacle of power and leaving an indelible mark on a great era.
