The Ten Days in Yangzhou: A Complete Translation

The harrowing truth about the bloodshed at the turn of the Ming and Qing dynasties, glimpsed by the great scholar Liang Qichao only after traveling east to Japan, is now revealed in a major new edition of The Ten Days in Yangzhou (Complete Translation)! The book collects five core documents: The Ten Days in Yangzhou, A Brief Account of the Defense of Yangzhou, Events in Jiading County in the Yiyou Year, A Brief Account of Eastern Zhejiang, and Seven Matters of Crossing the River. All are firsthand accounts written by those who lived through the events. From the hell on earth of the Ten Days in Yangzhou and the three massacres in Jiading, to the lonely resistance of patriots in Eastern Zhejiang and the struggles over the survival of the Southern Ming court, every word is steeped in blood and tears, restoring the horrific chaos of a shattered realm. These documents were harshly banned and destroyed by the Qing court, but survived because people risked their lives to copy them in secret. They are both a stunning historical record and a tale of tragic courage. This vernacular translation removes the obscurity of classical Chinese while fully preserving the original's historical value, allowing modern readers to confront this obscured history and understand the bloodshed and steadfast resistance in a time of national peril!
