Lin Wan, a graduate student in the Department of History, accidentally traveled to Hong Kong in 1987 with his ancestral compass because of an old DVD of "The Ghost Company". He fell into the back alley of the Tsim Sha Tsui Police Station and met police officer Kim McGee who was haunted by a female ghost. At the critical moment, the compass appeared and defeated the evil ghost, but she was detained by Kim McGee as a "suspicious element".
In order to find his way back, Lin Wan stayed at the police station as a temporary clerk. He formed a strange partner with the quick-witted Kim McGee and the timid and enthusiastic Meng Chao, and was forced to be involved in a series of supernatural cases. The compass can not only sense the yin energy, but also display movie plot clips, helping her navigate classic Hong Kong movie scenes such as "The Haunted Mansion" and "Mr. Zombie".
From the haunting of the police station to the corpse transformation in Yizhuang, from the ominous sound in the theater to the phantom in the hospital, Lin Wan gradually awakens to the Taoist talent, and Kim McGee also goes from being wary to falling in love. The two depended on each other for life and death in the confrontation with the Xuanmen Association. In the gap between the Yin and Yang worlds, they composed a Hong Kong-style strange love that spans time and space. When the truth about time travel is intertwined with the secrets of Xuanmen, can they keep the peace of each other and Xiangjiang in a world where ghosts are rampant?
