“If you had to get your hands dirty to protect the light, would you?”
Police academy prodigy Mu Ci volunteers to infiltrate the most dangerous drug cartel in Ming'an City, the Black Dragon Society, to avenge his father. Waiting for him are the bodies of his fallen senior colleagues, not yet cold, and Lin Mo, an undercover mentor shrouded in mystery and as cold as ice.
Here, passion is poison. For his first lesson, Lin Mo presses a gun into his trembling palm. “Mu Ci, come on. Pull the trigger. I’ll teach you.” The bullet pierces more than the target. It also shatters a police officer’s naive faith in justice. He must learn to survive in a drug den, to offer cigarettes, to fight, and even... to become indifferent.
But beneath the surface, the Black Dragon Society is rife with intrigue, and a mole codenamed Fisherman lurks even higher up in the police force. Trust is a luxury, and every step brings him to the edge of a cliff. When he is forced to raise a knife against an innocent person at gunpoint, and Lin Mo reveals the bloody story of his late wife on a rainy night, Mu Ci finally understands: some battles begin when you put on the uniform, but end only when you take it off, so you can become the darkness itself.
When the final operation to wipe out the cartel begins, his identity is exposed, and a gun is pressed to his back. In the face of certain death, a gravely wounded Lin Mo shoves the bloodstained evidence into his hands and gasps, “Mu Ci... come on... pull the trigger... I taught you how.”
Facing the anguished eyes of the man who was both his mentor and father figure, Mu Ci rests his finger on the trigger. This shot is about life and death, but also about a legacy worth more than life itself.
