At seventeen, Cheng Jiaoyi was the most carefree ray of sunshine at Ningchuan High School.
She fell in love at first sight with the transfer student Ji Jiayan and pursued him so passionately that everyone knew about it.
But the boy, forever cool and distant, gave her only one response: "You're so annoying."
Seven years later, they meet again.
At a class reunion, she is the wealthy daughter of the Cheng family, back from studying abroad, while he is a rising star in medicine whose face graces the cover of a medical journal.
When someone brings up the past, she swirls her wine and laughs. "I was immature back then. I was just fooling around."
In a corner, his heart sinks completely.
No one knows that the understated diamond ring on her left ring finger now came from another man, one who let her run headfirst into a wall, then comforted her in time when she got hurt.
"Ji Jiayan, I don't want you anymore."
No one can stay in the same place forever. Neither can I.
Warning: spoilers ahead
1. Ji Jiayan is not the male lead. The hero and heroine are pseudo-siblings.
2. The heroine pursues the second male lead but doesn't win him over. The second male lead tries to win her back but fails. They do not reconcile.
3. This is not an empowering heroine fantasy, nor does it feature a traditional villainess. The heroine is truly beautiful and mischievous, and the hero's methods of pursuing her are indeed less than honorable.
4. The early story focuses heavily on the heroine and the second male lead. If that bothers you, please don't read.
5. Whoever the heroine ends up with is the male lead. Everyone else is assumed to be part of the hero and heroine's play. If that bothers you, please leave. Thank you.
6. This was written on a whim. It's melodramatic, and the plot is very clichéd.
7. The early part is set in a youthful school romance, with a dazzling heiress relentlessly pursuing an aloof heartthrob. The later part is a sweet, doting wealthy-family romance, with a gloomy sister-obsessed brother doting on and flirting with his little sister every day.
"As long as you look back, I'll be right behind you."
"Be my rock forever."
