Gentle, cunning contract-brother x stubborn, sunny contract-younger-brother
A sweet story with just a little bitterness along the way. Happy ending, no secondary pairing.
Nanyang Village is a fishing village almost entirely cut off from the world. It takes more than ten days to reach the city. There are no fields here, only an endless sea.
Before every voyage, the villagers burn incense and pray together, making offerings to the sea god for safe passage and a bountiful catch.
One year, a storm struck and a boat capsized. Wen Yang and Chu He lost their parents that day.
Seventeen-year-old Wen Yang took fifteen-year-old Chu He by the hand. Facing the roiling sea and the sea god’s statue in the side hall, they bit their thumbs and swore a pact: they would never leave each other, for the rest of their lives.
The two of them lived a simple, unassuming life, relying on each other. When he was young, Chu He stubbornly thought, “Once I’m grown and strong, I’ll take my brother away from this sorrowful sea.”
As time went by, Chu He realized he was sinking into Wen Yang’s world, unable to pull himself free.
