"Daoxiang Tongxinlu" tells the story of Chen Daoxiang, an old farmer in the countryside in the late Qing Dynasty. In order to fight against severe drought, he led the villagers to establish a "Farmers' Assistance Association" and used a "Farmers Association Book" to record work and accounts to help each other and save themselves. The government suspected that he was organizing a rebellion and sent troops to round him up. Chen Daoxiang presented the book, which details that a certain household was hit by a disaster in a certain year, and everyone tried their best to help; that an insect infestation was rampant in a certain year, and the neighbors worked together to put out the rescue. The county magistrate burst into tears after reading it, realizing that this was not rebellion, but a feat of people's survival, so he petitioned the court for praise. The story thus unfolds a legend about trust, order and the wisdom of survival at the bottom.
