Synopsis

"The Book of Burial" is said to have been written by Guo Pu, a famous scholar in the Eastern Jin Dynasty. It is one of the foundational classics of ancient Chinese Feng Shui. With the core idea of "buried people take advantage of life", the book systematically expounds the natural laws and geographical conditions that should be followed when selecting burial sites, emphasizes the harmonious unity of humans and the natural environment, and pursues a theoretical system that provides shade and blessings to descendants through suitable burial sites. This book covers a wide range of topics, mainly focusing on the concept of "Qi", and discusses the intrinsic relationship between Qi, Yin and Yang, the Five Elements, topography, water flow and wind direction. The term "Feng Shui" is clearly mentioned in the book and explained as "Qi will disperse when it rides the wind, and stops when it is bounded by water." This laid the basic principle of "hiding wind and getting water" in later generations of Feng Shui theory.
