This is a story about music, faith, forbidden love and soul redemption, but it explores much more than that. The novel is set in an ancient church and tells the story of organist Su Wei and priest Lin Che who meet because of music, fall in love secretly, fall into a storm because of a concert that violates the rules, and finally find redemption in their respective "wildernesses".
