Us, Struggling Between Ideals and Reality

Seven years of devotion, wasted on reality

When my girlfriend broke up with me, she said, “Your guitar can’t provide for our future.”

I tossed my wedding ring into the river, convinced that love had no place in my life anymore.

Then I met Shen Nian’an.

The heiress of a wealthy family shoved a contract at me: “Be my boyfriend, fend off my suitors, and I’ll pay you 200 a day.”

I signed with a laugh, thinking the money was more reliable than true love.

I never expected her to get so caught up in the act that she’d fall deeply in love with me. Tangled emotions pulled me into one whirlpool after another, leaving me caught between several women at once. How should I choose? What kind of life do I really want?
