I Was Just Trying to Lie Flat, but I Was Forced to Solve the Case in the Spotlight

Lin Qingfeng has a secret: he sees the world like a high-definition movie, every detail crystal clear, but all he wants is to lie flat.

Until the day a professor is found dead inside a locked, century-old library, with four suspects, each boasting a flawless alibi.

“I have a theory,” he says, raising his hand. “The killer was already dead twenty minutes before the police were called.”

And so the “Out-of-the-Box Detective Club” is born: a laid-back observer, a passionate reporter, a hacker geek, and a drama-loving senior student.

They recreate scenes to crack locked-room mysteries, analyze data to track down ghosts, and stage performances to flush out the real culprits.

Their everyday life consists of scrambling for food in the cafeteria, slacking off in class, and betting on whether “the club president and the club president’s wife will confess today.”

But when an internet celebrity dies on a livestream, a famous painting is switched in the dead of night, and the symbols from a serial murder case ten years ago reappear at a crime scene...

They finally realize that the original “theory” has drawn them into a dangerous undercurrent with no way back.

And harder than committing the perfect crime is stumbling through a romance while solving one.

“This detective club solves cases with wild theories, relies on friends to help with romance, and takes comedy seriously.”
