During the Huichang period of the late Tang Dynasty, a disaster that destroyed Buddhism and Dharma swept across the world. Temples were burned down, classics were lost, and monks and nuns returned to secular life. The scholar monk Zhiyan took off his monk's robe, put on secular clothes, and became a copywriter of "Sanwei Shushi" in Wubenfang. During the day, he copied the account books for the silk and satin shop and considered the color of ink for a penny; at night, under the oil lamp in the warehouse, he used trembling hands to piece together the fragments of the scriptures that were eaten by insects and water-soaked. "Where is the Buddha?" This once clear question has become blurry and painful amid the hardship of livelihood and the collapse of faith.
