She was an orphan raised in the Imperial Medical Academy, forced to watch as Consort De had her mother beaten to death.
To take revenge, she became Shen Qinghe, a maid in the Laundry Bureau.
From the Eternal Lanes to the Palace of Gathering Elegance, from the plum grove to the emperor's bed in the Hall of Mental Cultivation, she planned her every move.
Consort De mocked her as lowborn, and the empress looked down on her origins. Neither knew that the fragrances she blended could bewitch the emperor, or that the tea she served could decide who lived and died.
Until the night the red candles burned down, the newly appointed Lady Shen knelt before the emperor, her expression as obedient as ever.
On the dragon bed, the emperor stroked her neck. “If you don't know how to please a man, I'll teach you.”
She lowered her eyes and smiled faintly. After fighting her way up through the palace intrigues, what she wanted was... to make those who had harmed her mother pay in blood.
