Beneath a rusted iron firmament, a sea of black oil swallows the civilization of the old world. In this world where knowledge is poison and the gods mutter in their sleep, madness is the norm and mutation is a blessing.
Victor Clay, a doctor at a black-market clinic in the Lower City, has eyes that can see the “absolute structure” of all things. To everyone else, the ancient gods are indescribable horrors. But to Victor, they're just a mass of growths in the wrong places, a few necrotic spiritual blood vessels, and a delicate operation waiting to be performed.
“There are no patients who can't be cured, only blades that aren't precise enough.”
As an evil god prepares to descend, Victor calmly pulls on his white gloves and polishes the scalpel in his hand. “Please hold still, patient. Your ‘divinity’ is inflamed. I need to perform an excision.”
