The story takes place in rivers, lakes and temples where power struggles are fierce and full of absurdity. A group of seemingly insignificant people are accidentally involved in an escalating power vortex. The protagonist Xie Wuquan relies on his humor and wisdom to get acquainted with the heroine Fei Qiaoqiao, the upstart Meng Quansheng, the noble son Zuo Xiaofeng, and the old powerful minister Chu Wanggui. Several people jointly dealt with the power struggle in the temple and the traps of the rivers and lakes, and faced various forces taking turns to fight. They use ingenuity and jokes to defuse crises, while constantly making choices between power, faith and humanity. Each volume has its own important plot points, but the whole story is coherent and progressive, jointly constructing the ups and downs of power from the rivers and lakes to the temples and back to the rivers and lakes, and finally ends in laughter and tears.
