The play is adapted from the novel "Harem: Ruyi's Royal Love in the Palace" by Wu Xuelan (Liu Lianzi). It tells the story of Hongli ascending the throne as Emperor Qianlong, and Jin Ruyi being conferred as Concubine Xian and entering the palace. Facing the whirlpool of harem dictatorship and political struggle, the two gradually felt tremendous pressure. The emperor and Concubine Xian worked together to finally remove the obstacles and Ruyi was promoted to queen. However, the mature emperor and his old love have become distant from each other, and their relationship is gradually drifting away.
