A "forbidden place" appears in the world that cannot be explained by science. Abandoned hospitals, the last subway train, old textbooks, or even a sentence may become taboo carriers. Entrants must abide by the hidden rules, otherwise they will be "erased" - not death, but completely disappearing from everyone's memory, as if they never existed.
The only way to resist: Become a night watchman - take the initiative or be forced to sign a "sacrifice contract" with the taboo, and offer sacrifices in exchange for power. Sacrifice can be flesh, memory, emotions, or even "names". But the taboo will continue to erode the Night Watch. When the erosion reaches 100%, the Night Watch will become a new taboo.
