Reborn: I Built a City Underground

Mechanical engineer Lu Chen starves to death in an apocalypse laboratory, then is reborn two years before the disasters begin. He sells his patents, spends billions, and finds a valley surrounded by mountains on three sides. Using robots he invented, he digs and builds at a furious pace. Three floors above ground, and a six-level fortress a hundred meters underground: living quarters, industrial machine tools, an ecological farm, an energy center, even an oxygen park and underground rivers. The apocalypse arrives. The world reaches 80 degrees Celsius in extreme heat, then freezes over in an instant, turning the outside world into hell. But Lu Chen, his girlfriend, and her best friend live inside their impregnable fortress, growing crops and raising livestock, developing technology, and livestreaming delicious food. While survivors gnaw on tree bark on the frozen wasteland, they enjoy hot pot in their warm fortress. While raiders fight to the death over a single ration bar, they watch a starry-sky movie through a holographic projector. From a fortress for one, to an alliance of humanity, and then out to the stars. This is a story about being reborn, technology, protection, and how to live like an immortal in the apocalypse.
