Criminal Law of the People's Republic of China

The "Criminal Law of the People's Republic of China" is a law enacted in accordance with the Constitution and in conjunction with my country's specific experience in fighting crime and the actual situation to punish crimes and protect the people. On July 1, 1979, the second session of the Fifth National People's Congress passed it and came into effect on January 1, 1980 (Note: It was called the "1979 Old Criminal Law" and is now invalid). Revised at the Fifth Session of the Eighth National People's Congress on March 14, 1997; promulgated by Order No. 83 Of the President of the People's Republic of China on March 14, 1997; effective from October 1, 1997 (Note: It is called the "1997 Criminal Law", which is the current Criminal Law). It has been revised twelve times, the latest being the "Amendment to the Criminal Law of the People's Republic of China (Twelve)", which was adopted at the seventh meeting of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People's Congress of the People's Republic of China on December 29, 2023, and will come into effect on March 1, 2024.
