The Tathagata gave the five masters and disciples (Tang Monk, Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie, Sha Monk, and White Dragon Horse) a "mirror to reflect evil spirits and discern people" after their merits were completed and they became Buddhas. Reflected in the mirror:
- Although the monsters on the way to learn the scriptures have been subdued or killed, their "demon nature" has not been eliminated. They have just scattered in the world and turned into greed, anger, ignorance, suspicion, intrigues, lust, and worldly prejudices...
-Although the bliss in the West is complete, there is still a boundless ocean of suffering in the world.
The Tathagata asked: "Now that you have become Buddhas, are you willing to enter the world of mortals again and use your mortal body to save people in the world and also save the remaining 'inner demons' within yourself?"
The five people said in unison: "I want to go!"
So the Tathagata waved his hand, and the holy names of the five people were sealed. Their golden bodies fell to the ground, and their magic power was dissipated. They were reincarnated as mortals, leaving only a trace of vague wisdom. They agreed: If they can go through the "Eighty-one Difficulties in the World" together again in this life, they will truly be fulfilled and have no regrets.
