My Ordinary Life!

After graduating from middle school, he enrolled in a vocational school to learn cooking. Sharp-tongued, aloof, and never one to back down from a fight, he faced scorn with a spatula in one hand and a knife in the other, his hands blistered by splattering oil. From flinging fried rice into his teacher’s face to winning respect in a solo skills test, he fought his way forward through the greasy, smoky world of the kitchen. This is a story of sparks flying among pots and pans, of defiance savored in everyday meals, and of a lone young man who, in his own clumsy way, learns how to make peace with the world.
