Late one night, Xu Ning is sorting Northern Song artifacts at a museum when his fingers touch a twin-fish jade pendant engraved with “Ce Ning.” Suddenly, an electrical fault breaks out in the storeroom. A thunderbolt strikes the pendant through the skylight, and Xu Ning loses consciousness in the blinding light. Before passing out, all he can do is clutch the pendant, hot to the touch.
When he wakes, he is in a damp, dilapidated shrine to the mountain god. His coarse ancient-style clothes are caked with mud, and his modern clothes and phone are gone. Only the twin-fish jade pendant remains in his palm. Xu Ning realizes he may have transmigrated.
