Shi Haotian is the sole heir to a family of tomb raiders from Zhili, but a friend's betrayal lands him in prison. At the Zhili Detention Center, he plays dumb, using the streetwise patter instilled in him by his family while quietly observing those around him. There, he befriends Lao Gou, a convicted tomb raider. Lao Gou thinks Shi Haotian is a clueless rookie, unaware that he has inherited his family's secret tomb-raiding jargon and knack for reading people. After his release, Shi Haotian has nothing to his name, and Lao Gou brings him into the business. Starting as a lowly laborer, he quickly rises through one perilous tomb-raiding operation after another, relying on his understanding of the rules and his sharp mind to navigate the competing factions, until he becomes an underworld kingpin.
