The Ginseng Spirit Repays a Debt of Gratitude: So You Want to Stew Me, Young Master?

[Spirits + Cultivation and Ascension + Repaying a Debt + Bickering Couple + Imperial Exams Later On, Plus a Groveling Chase for His Wife]

(Ascension-resistant ginseng spirit Ren Xin x a disillusioned young master turned refined top scholar Lu Rang)

I'm a thousand-year-old ginseng spirit, and I've failed to ascend 99 times.

As it turns out, it's because I never repaid a debt of gratitude to some mortal.

When I found my benefactor's reincarnation, I was stunned:

A dissolute, numb, down-and-out young master?

To become an immortal, I rolled up my sleeves and got to work on a serious makeover:

He gambled, I flipped the table.

He drank, I smashed the wine vat.

He lay around, I tore apart the bed.

While I was working myself to death, he pinned me to a corner, his voice low and husky:

“You can repay your debt, and I can have you.”

“Can't we each do our own thing?”

My face flushed. I thought… maybe we could.

Until I uncovered the truth about our past lives and broke down on the spot:

What life-saving debt?

He planted me back then for the sole purpose of…

fattening me up to make soup!
