When I opened my eyes, I had become the vicious cannon-fodder character in a political intrigue novel: arrogant and stupid, newly married to the powerful minister Pei Jing, and already trying to poison him with the nuptial wine.
In the original story, I didn’t survive past chapter three.
Looking at the stunning face in the mirror, with a beauty mark at the corner of my eye, I promptly knocked over the poisoned wine and dashed barefoot into my husband’s bath.
Through the swirling steam, I wrapped my arms around his scarred back and trembled as I spoke:
“My lord, I’ve come to beg forgiveness.”
Later, everyone said that the ruler’s measure Pei wielded, the one that cut down every corrupt official in court with cold, merciless precision, bent only for me.
He put shackles on me, and he took off my armor.
He gave me poisoned wine, and he gave me honey.
Then, at a palace banquet, with disaster only a hair’s breadth away, I broke the deadlock with a poem at his ear and uncovered a deadly plot.
Before everyone’s eyes, he gripped my wrist, a dark storm raging in his eyes, unreadable to me.
“Su Wanwan, who are you, really?”
I rose on tiptoe and kissed the bloodstained edge of his official robe, smiling brightly yet brokenly.
“Your blade. Your shackles.”
“The only place you’ll ever belong.”
It's a very good book. It has the same characteristics as the other one. It has flaws, sourness, and humor. The writing is also good. I like it 👍👍👍
