"The Aftermath of Midsummer" takes Binhai University as the starting point and connects the youth trajectories of a group of young people such as Xia Zhi, Nan Sheng, Zang Yi, and Cong Cong. Xia Zhi, who comes from a wealthy background but hides her rough edges, gradually loses her enthusiasm for a long-distance relationship with her childhood sweetheart Nan Sheng, from being inseparable to peacefully breaking up; and an accidental recruitment of new members of the drama club allows her to meet Zang Yi, a man of ordinary background but sincere and tenacious. His understanding and companionship become the light for her to get out of the trough.
The story contains the youth and enthusiasm of the campus - the sweat of military training, the glory of the welcome party, the silence of the study room, and the confession at the seaside; there are also the pains and choices of growing up - the alienation and perseverance of friendship, the sweetness and regret of love, the gap and compromise in reality. From ignorant freshmen to mature professionals, from vigorous love to ordinary stability, they left a deep mark on each other's lives, and each went on to his own future in the years.
The regrets in youth, the unspoken concerns, and the love wrapped in reality are all gently healed by time in the end. Those residual warmth scattered in the midsummer, those stories about growth, choice and farewell, are the epitome of each of us' youth - living with enthusiasm, living with regrets, and finally, in ordinary days, reconciling with the past and embracing life.
