A Wild Rose in the Rough Man's Hands

Liu Nian, a violinist in an orchestra, returns to her hometown to take care of her grandmother's affairs. She discovers that the village is about to be demolished, while Jiang Yubai, who practices the traditional craft of bamboo weaving, stubbornly holds on to his old home. Twelve years after they last saw each other, Liu Nian and Jiang Yubai reunite. Their feelings remain unchanged, and they mend their relationship. The story captures their reluctance to part with their hometown and their sorrow at seeing traditional straw-weaving pushed to the margins by the demands of speed. They want to protect, preserve, and pass on the things they love, and hold on to the old days.
