Chen Sheng jolted upright in bed, sweat soaking through the back of his pajamas. He had just finished reading the finale of The Grave Robbers' Chronicles, and the story's heartbreaking regrets had struck him in the heart once again. Zhang Qiling's lonely childhood, which he silently bore; Hei Xiazi's fading eyesight; A Ning's death in the Snake Marsh; Yun Cai collapsing in Pangzi's arms; Pan Zi's sacrifice after singing “Red Sorghum”; Wu Xie's struggle to shoulder ten years of hardship alone; Li Cu's painful, forced coming-of-age; and Yang Hao's grandmother, who would never live to meet her grandson...
“If only I could change all of that.” Chen Sheng murmured to himself. Without thinking, he swiped his phone screen and opened the familiar novel again.

A mechanical voice suddenly sounded in his mind. Chen Sheng was so startled he almost dropped his phone. Before he could react, another voice followed:
[Strong desire detected in Host. Tenfold Return System successfully bound!]

Chen Sheng sat on the bed, dumbfounded and speechless for a full five minutes. He pinched himself hard, and the pain was unmistakable.
“This isn't a dream... This really isn't a dream!”
He leaped around in excitement, bouncing from the bed to the floor and then back again like a crazed monkey. The Regret-Repair System! The Tenfold Return System! Didn't that mean he now had both a way to rewrite the tragedies and the resources to make it happen?
I'm focused on character development, so I won't write scenes that go against the characters' established personalities. If you want a power fantasy, please read something else.
