This is the legendary tale of Lin Xuan, a young man who rises from adversity in the world of cultivation.
Lin Xuan, a distant branch member of the Lin family of Qingyang City, was regarded as a good-for-nothing from childhood. By chance, he awakens memories of his past life and a rare Mystic Ice Physique, and inherits a mysterious Mystic Ice Jade Pendant. Surrounded by family infighting and external enemies, he uses the advantages of being reborn to refine a high-grade Foundation Establishment Pill in the face of certain death, break through his limits, and embark on the path of cultivation.
After leaving Qingyang City, Lin Xuan enters Cangwu Academy, where his astonishing talent stirs up a storm: he dazzles everyone in the spiritual-root test, defeats powerful foes in secret-realm trials, and overcomes the competition in the academy tournament. Step by step, he grows from a new student in the outer academy into a leading figure in the inner academy. He befriends Qin Feng and his confidante Su Qing, but also faces the obstruction and ambushes of formidable rivals such as Chu Feng and Li Muran, while being drawn into power struggles between the families of the prefectural city.
From life-and-death battles in Qingyang City, to fierce competition at Cangwu Academy, and then to the contest for ancient inheritance in the Cangwu Secret Realm, Lin Xuan continually breaks through cultivation bottlenecks by combining the Nine Revolutions Mystic Ice Art with the Starry Sword Art. He uses ice to overcome fire and stars to vanquish evil. He must not only face threats from demonic beasts and inner demons, but also hold fast to his Dao heart and protect those around him amid family conspiracies and sect infighting.
As his strength grows, Lin Xuan gradually uncovers the secrets of the Mystic Ice Jade Pendant and discovers that his rebirth and the awakening of his Mystic Ice Physique are closely tied to the schemes of ancient cultivators. The upheavals in Cangwu Commandery are only the prelude to a far vaster cultivation world. He will eventually set out for Zhongzhou, where he must face even stronger enemies and more astonishing secrets, forging his own path of Mystic Ice through the tempering of ice and stars.
